Sheffield Wednesday is pleased to announce that the city's famous Varsity Challenge will be coming to Hillsborough for the first time this year.

The annual sporting challenge between the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, which is now in its 14th year, will hold its football finals at SWFC's ground on the afternoon of Wednesday April 21, 2010.

University of Sheffield sports officer, Kate Rickard, said: "I think it is wonderful that we have secured Hillsborough Stadium as the venue for this year's Varsity Challenge. I hope that spectators come out to back those competing and help create a great atmosphere on the day."

Sam Gill, Sports Executive at Hallam Union, added: "We are very excited to be holding the Varsity final at Sheffield Wednesday and we are delighted that the club have invited us to use the ground. It will be a fantastic event and a great opportunity for the students to play in a world-class venue"

The Varsity event is a celebration of sport in Sheffield, showcasing the cities facilities and capabilities for high profile sporting events. It also aims to involve the local community, and each year it nominates a chosen charity to support throughout the competition.

This year Sheffield Wednesday partner The Children's Hospital Charity has been selected as the official charity of Sheffield Varsity 2010.

Over the course of competition the universities will raise funds from both competitors and spectators with a percentage of proceeds from the final event at Hillsborough going to The Children's Hospital Charity.

The club's corporate social responsibly manager, Spencer Taylor, said: "Sheffield Wednesday is extremely pleased to be hosting this year's Varsity finals.

"We are certain that Hillsborough Stadium will prove to be a great setting for the event, with the added bonus that Varsity will be helping raise money our partner The Children's Hospital Charity."
