More than 150 health conscious Sheffield Wednesday supporters checked in for a free matchday MOT at Hillsborough Stadium on Saturday.

The club's second health MOT day proved even more popular than the first back in January, with dozens of eager fans arriving early for the game against Ipswich to take advantage of the health expertise on offer.

The regular sessions are part of Sheffield Wednesday's Healthy Owls initiative, in partnership with NHS Sheffield and The University of Sheffield's Goodwin Sports Centre, which aims to promote the importance of healthy living among football fans.

The University of Sheffield was on hand to offer blood pressure, body fat and BMI readings as well as offering Owls fans tips on maintaining a healthy diet and information on exercise regimes.

Nick Wilson, health and fitness development manager at the University, said: "I am delighted that the matchday MOTs are going from strength to strength, with even more Wednesday supporters turning up to get checked out on Saturday.

"This is a great way to promote healthy living amongst football fans and hopefully the university and SWFC can continue to work together to encourage more and more people to think about their health and fitness."

The club's corporate social responsibility manger, Spencer Taylor, who has organised the Healthy Owls event, said: "Our aim at Sheffield Wednesday is to play a key role in making Sheffield one of the healthiest cities in the UK through sport and the Healthy Owls scheme is working towards this goal.

"The MOT, which is available at one home game every month, is a quick and easy check-up that takes less than ten minutes. It has so far proved very popular and I hope our supporters will continue to take advantage of this service in the future."

The next matchday MOTs will take place at the Derby County match at Hillsborough Stadium on Saturday March 20. Keep checking the official website for more details of the event.
