Brian Laws

Brian was appointed Owls boss on November 6 2006 after a successful period in charge at Scunthorpe United. Laws bossed the Iron for almost ten years and led them to promotion twice in that time, as Division Three play-off winners in 1998/99 and League Two runners-up in 2004/05, leaving United third in League One when he joined the Owls.

The Wallsend product started his managerial career with Grimsby Town, spending two years at Blundell Park between 1994 and 1996. In his playing days, Laws made 651 professional appearances for Burnley, Huddersfield Town, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest, Grimsby, Darlington and Scunthorpe.

In his time at Forest, Laws won the League Cup in 1989 and 1990 and was a runner-up in the 1991 FA Cup final and the 1992 League Cup final.

Russ Wilcox

Russ moved to Hillsborough as assistant boss to Brian Laws in November 2006, continuing the partnership they had at Scunthorpe United. Wilcox became number two to Laws at Glanford Park after moving into coaching, having played his final game as a player in 2002.

Hemsworth-born, Russ made almost 600 senior appearances during his playing days. A centre half, he represented Northampton Town, Hull City, Doncaster Rovers, Preston North End and Scunthorpe after being spotting in non-league football with Frickley Athletic.

Billy Mercer

Billy was appointed as goalkeeping coach at Hillsborough in the summer of 2004, having been recruited to work with the Owls keepers after a similar stint at Bristol City.

Mercer started his playing career with hometown club Liverpool but made his breakthrough after moving to Rotherham United, where he spent over five years before joining Sheffield United in 1994.

He linked up with Chesterfield a year later, enjoying almost four years at Saltergate before moving to Bristol City, where he finished his playing days in 2003.

Mark Palmer

Mark was born and raised in New Zealand on Aucklands Northshore. He spent four years studying physiotherapy in Auckland before working for a further three years at a leading physiotherapy clinic specialising in footballers, including the top players from New Zealand. During this time, Mark also completed a two-year post-graduate diploma in sports physiotherapy.

He left New Zealand in 2004 to take up a role with the Nottingham Forest academy in England before joining the Sheffield Wednesday academy in 2005 shortly before the Owls' League One play-off final win against Hartlepool.

Mark took the first team reins at Hillsborough following John Dickens' departure to Doncaster Rovers in October 2006.

Club Doctor
Dr. Richard Higgins

Richard joined SWFC in April 1998 and is now approaching his sixth season at Hillsborough. When he came on board, he and then colleague Dr. Rav Naik were the only full time doctors in the Premiership. Richard has a post graduate qualification in sports medicine.

Russ Storey

Russ works for both the Owls first team and the academy, giving both camps information on their own players and other teams. He compiles statistics on all first team matches in addition to videoing academy games at all levels. As well as providing team analysis, he also carries out individual analysis on players and provides videos of both domestic games and overseas matches for the academy to use in demonstrating points to players.
