The Sheffielder's arrival at SWFC early in 2005 brought him full circle - he started out in football as a player with Hillsborough boys club almost half a century ago, before playing at conference and midland levels.

John moved on to work at youth level with Nottingham Forest under Brian Clough, then served Sheffield United and Chelsea before working with England in the 1998 World Cup campaign.

He also linked up with Ian Porterfield in Trinidad and was chief scout and match assessment co-ordinator to the Welsh national side prior to joining the Owls.

Richard Groves
Head of Recruitment

Richard joined the Owls midway through the 2005-06 season having previously served as chief executive/secretary at Halifax Town AFC, who he served for four years.

His background at Halifax serves him well in his role at Hillsborough, which entails administrative work such as contacting scouts, players and junior clubs to organise trials with both players and the Football League. He also has to liase with the academy coaching staff over all aspects of bringing trialists to the club.
