Academy Manager

Sean was appointed Owls academy manager in 2006, stepping up from his previous role as assistant manager for the club's 9-16 age groups.

The Sheffielder joined Wednesday in the summer of 2005, bringing with him the experience collected in a playing career spanning 14 years. He started with Manchester United in 1990 before moving north to St Johnstone two years later.

After three years in Scotland, the left-back joined Hartlepool United and made 92 Pools appearances, prior to signing for Scunthorpe United in 1997. He racked up 84 Iron outings before switching to Rochdale in 2000. Following 45 Dale matches Sean moved on to Halifax Town where he began his coaching career as assistant manager of the Shaymen.

Neville Burbeary 
Assistant Academy Manager (9-16) Nev Burbeary

Neville was appointed assistant academy manager for the under-9 to under-16 age groups in January 2006.

The Sheffielder stepped up to that role after spending the previous four years working as a coach in the Owls' youth system.

Neville moved into coaching after playing non-league football. He spent six years on the staff at Derby County and two years with Barnsley before beginning his work with the Wednesday youngsters.

Richard Groves

and Child Protection Officer

Richard joined the Owls midway through the 2005-06 season having previously served as chief executive/secretary at Halifax Town AFC, who he served for four years.

His background at Halifax serves him well in his role at Hillsborough, which entails administrative work such as contacting scouts, players and junior clubs to organise trials with both players and the Football League. He also has to liase with the academy coaching staff over all aspects of bringing trialists to the club.

Vicky Tomlinson  Vicky Tomlinson
Education and Welfare Officer/ Sports Psychologist

Vicky oversees the education programme for the academy scholars, a role which includes the teaching of the youngsters' BTEC certificate in sports studies. She also looks after the welfare of the academy players from the age of eight upwards, ie personal problems, which can be discussed with her in confidence.
