The Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme have recruited their new Social Inclusion Officer, Matt Bray.

Since his appointment, Matt has been on hand in the local area of Stocksbridge, providing young people with an alternative way to spend their evenings.

He said: "The activities that we're doing are aimed at providing young people with an activity that they want to do. One of our ideas is that it will improve the confidence of local residents in these young people. It's then seen that something positive is happening and that young people aren't always causing trouble, they are taking part in positive activities."

Matt has been brought on board by the Owls' Community Programme to introduce varied projects and encourage young people to get involved with coaching sessions and mini-games.

Sheffield Wednesday community manager, Marcus Brameld, said: "These training sessions give young people a chance to enjoy themselves without causing trouble. Whilst many would be wandering the streets, others may be inside playing on computer games, or even out drinking with their friends. This way, we're helping to keep them fit and active, but also safe and away from trouble.

He added: "We've brought Matt on board to help build our projects with teenagers and other young people in the Sheffield region. It's just another side to the way that we reach out to the community and so far things are looking very positive."
