Boss Angered By Decisions
Owls boss Brian Laws felt like he had been robbed at Crystal Palace on Saturday after conceding a last minute winner having led their London hosts early on.
It was a bitter pill for Laws to swallow, especially having two penalty appeals waved away and seeing Frank Simek stretchered off with a worrying ankle injury to Frank Simek.
"Under the circumstances I thought we were excellent today," Laws insisted. "We know Neil Warnock has got them working extremely hard and they are very direct in their approach. We knew they were going to be in our faces but I thought we coped well, we got the goal and all of a sudden looked very comfortable."
Laws continued: "In the second half we were in control and had a few opportunities to kill the game off but it is so hard to take when you concede late on. It was a great finish by the boy (Sean Scannell) and there was only one place he could put the ball.
"There was a story about Steven Gerrard getting burgled earlier in the week and it feels like we have been robbed here today."
Laws was particularly disappointed with the decisions of the match referee, feeling his side should have been given two penalties at Selhurst Park.
"There were one or two instances that I was not happy with, particularly in the first half when Lee Bullen was put in a headlock in the penalty area," the Owls boss said. "That should have been a penalty and then Burton O'Brien went down under a ridiculous challenge in the second half and the referee still didn't give anything. We are talking about consistency here on both sides and I thought the referee today was awful."
Commenting on Simek's ankle injury, Laws added: "There was a sickening injury to Frank Simek. It doesn't look good at all, he fell awkwardly and we are all very concerned.
"It certainly didn't look clever. Frankie is one of the strongest players we have mentally and when that lad goes down rolling around on the floor we know something is wrong so I will keep my fingers crossed that it's not too serious."
Following Brian Laws' post match comments, the Owls management staff were told by medical staff that Simek's ankle is not broken as first feared. The defender will undergo a full examination as soon as possible.
