Owls boss, Brian Laws, is urging his players to be calm and constructive in their play as Wednesday aim to climb away from the relegation places in the Championship.

With 15 games to go this season, the Owls need wins to get out of the bottom three but Laws insists that it is paramount his players do not panic and allow their qualities to shine through with hard work on the pitch.

Cardiff City come to Hillsborough on Saturday following the midweek postponement of the Coventry City fixture and the Wednesday manager has told his players what is required.

"We have not even kicked a ball and we have moved backwards in the league but the important thing is that we don't panic," Laws stressed. "If we play panic football that will not help us in any way shape or form. We have got to be calm, constructive and make sure we win every game we possibly can.

"I have every faith in the players and if they put in the same kind of effort they did against Charlton I have every belief they will go and win the game (against Cardiff). The bar has been set and I expect the players to not only to reach it but increase the level."

Laws continued: "We were disappointed to lose the Coventry game because we were feeling very confident preparing for that match and it would have been good to go into the Cardiff game on the back of a win.

"Cardiff are a good side in good form and it will probably bring the best out of us. I think the players tend to treat these games slightly differently when they know they are playing a good side at the top of the division, trying to get into the play-offs.

"We played them not so long ago and I thought we gave them a bit too much respect in the first half but we got about them in the second half and we certainly need to do that in this match from the beginning so that they don't get a foothold in the game. Again, I will be asking the supporters to get right behind us because they are a vital cog in our wheel."

Laws also spoke about the future of club captain, Lee Bullen, who has indicated that he may move away from Hillsborough after this season. The Wednesday manager insisted that a final decision on a new contract had not been made but he has spoken to the versatile defender and Bullen is aware that his future may lie elsewhere.

"We have got the utmost respect for Lee Bullen, he is in the team and doing well but we have honesty within this camp and Lee's future may lie somewhere else at the end of the season," Laws said.

"At this point we can't guarantee him a contract at the end of the season and Lee can have that in his mind. Lee has been a great servant for this club and he is continuing to do a terrific job for Sheffield Wednesday.

"We have got no long term plans at this time because we are not sure on the club's standing. Therefore you can't look too far ahead and all we can do is plan on where we are and where we stand.

"At the moment a number of players are in a similar situation. At this point we have to focus on this season as we are in control of our own destiny, we have to concentrate on what's happening this season, not next year. We have to focus on getting out of this relegation problem," Laws concluded.
