Strike Pair Please Laws
Brian Laws admitted his team had to dig in deep at Colchester United on Tuesday night but was pleased to take a win whatever way it came to the Owls.
Elsewhere, Leicester City's loss at Southampton allowed Wednesday to climb out of the bottom three but Laws knows there are plenty more battles to come before safety is achieved.
The Wednesday manager saw his side come from a goal behind to secure victory with first half strikes from Deon Burton and Wade Small.
In blustery conditions, Wednesday recorded their first ever victory at Layer Road after weathering something of a storm from Geraint Williams' team after the break.
"We had to really dig in deep and the wind was a counterpart where in the first half we had the wind and in the second half it was against us, Laws said. "You could see in the second half we had the wind against us but we will take the result, if it's scrappy then we will take it."
Despite plenty of defending to get the result, the Owls boss picked his front two out for praise as they held the ball up well and posed a threat in attack.
"At times we created one or two opportunities and up front Deon Burton and Marcus Tudgay are starting to look like a partnership and showed the attitude and drive that we had last year," Laws said.
"I said to them (Tudgay and Burton) this could be the turning point of our season if they gets going and they certainly put a shift in along with the two midfield players. I thought McAllister was industrious and put some vital challenges in at the right time, which was important."
Laws was also delighted with the character shown by his players to come back from 1-0 down for the second time this week.
"To turn it round after going a goal down is pleasing, we seem to have a bad record for conceding early goals but the stats man tells me today that we have the best record of recovering from a 1-0 deficit so that surprised me," he said.
"Colchester threw everything at it and went at it right from the start, the equaliser was vital then we had another chance to score and a couple of one-on-ones - it was nice to see one of those go in today.
"But it is about reaction and making sure the players don't melt out there or wilt away, the players have not let Colchester's goal get to them, they stood firm, got the equaliser, got a second goal and then dug in deep after that."
