Brian Laws has called for continued application from his team to ensure that they stay out of the dreaded Championship drop zone.

Wednesday climbed out of the bottom three on Tuesday night after beating Colchester United at Layer Road but the Owls boss insists it will be just as hard to stay out of the relegation places during the season run-in.

Laws takes his team to fellow strugglers Coventry City on Saturday and knows a positive result can keep the Owls' heads above water.

"I will express to the players; don't you ever think that the pressure is off," Laws stated. "It's more intense than ever."

"The fact that we have got out of the bottom three doesn't mean we can take our foot off the gas. In fact, what we have got to do is work even harder because it is as hard to stay out of that bottom three as it is to get out of it in the first place.

"Lets hope we continue in the same vein. I have every confidence in the players, their attitudes have been first class, players are coming back into form.

"Deon Burton has been instrumental in the last couple of games and long may that continue. He has a great understanding with Marcus Tudgay and when those two play well together they are a real handful but we also have a lot of pace out wide with Franck Songo'o and Wade Small in the team at the moment so we can get in behind teams and hurt them."

The Wednesday manager was also very pleased not to have lost any more players to injuries following the basement battle at Colchester and is hopeful that fresh faces may soon be in contention for first team action, even if this weekend comes too soon for the likes of Frankie Simek and Steve Watson.

"We are looking pretty good from the Colchester point of view - we haven't taken any extra injuries," Laws said. "Wade Small is fine and everyone is in good spirits so we are looking at things positively rather than negatively.

"We also have players coming back to fitness who have played in the reserve game so we should be getting stronger and stronger. On the other side of things we have Adam Bolder coming back from suspension so that gives me something to look at in terms of selection for the Coventry game."

Despite two wins in succession and a decent haul of eleven points from the last six games, Laws is considering changing his tactics for the Coventry trip.

"I will certainly look at the way Coventry play very closely, we have got to be wary of the fact that they play 4-3-3 and try to feed the ball through the midfield to the strikers as quickly as they possibly can," the Owls boss commented.

"I think we also have to be aware that they have two wide men who can be very busy so I may have to look at the formation side of it.

"It is an important game for us and one we want to win but it is also one we don't want to lose because it keeps us in touching distance of Coventry and not only that but if we can come through the game unscathed it puts us in a better driving seat than if we lose the game."
