Emotional Game For Laws
Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws was left relieved on Tuesday night after his side grabbed a last-gasp equaliser against Coventry City to climb out of the bottom three.
Wednesday's point from their game in hand over several Championship rivals allowed them to climb above Southampton and Barnsley and, more importantly, out of the relegation zone.
But it was looking unlikely for Laws' men to come back from an 83rd minute strike by substitute Zavon Hines following Jermaine Johnson's mistake at the back.
The Jamaica winger was fielded in an unfamiliar role at right back and performed impressively on the night but was distraught with the error which led to Coventry's goal. Thankfully his emotion soon turned to relief after Richard Wood's goal in stoppage time.
"You talk about football and how emotional it can be and we have just experienced a huge amount of emotion there at the end," Laws said after the match.
"It was nothing more than we deserved and to concede a goal by an individual mistake was hard to take. Jermaine Johnson had an excellent game at right back but he is not a right back and it was nice for us to score in the 93rd minute when it has been happening to us," the Owls boss continued.
"JJ has done a tremendous job, he was in tears when he came off at the end because he knew what that meant but at least we got a goal in the end."
Laws admitted he did not expect his team to bounce back from Hines' late strike but was delighted that his side managed to secure a point at the death.
"The players kept going, they didn't collapse and they showed the kind of commitment we need between now and the end of the season," Laws said.
"At least that saving point has taken us out of the bottom three, it was one of our games in hand and we took a point from it and we need to get something out of the next one.
"Psychologically it is a great boost for us and it is a real downer for the teams we have just overtaken because we have a good goal difference, which may count as an extra point come the end of the season.
"Now we have lost just one game in the last ten, we are on the way up and other teams are on the way down so I am happy to let another team have the pressure of being in the bottom three."
