Brian Laws says he is expecting no favours from Norwich this weekend but insists his side will be going all-out for nothing less than three points on the final day of a dramatic campaign.

After beating Leicester at the Walkers Stadium last week, Wednesday find themselves one point clear of Southampton, who occupy the last of the relegation places. Sunday's opponents Norwich clinched safety in style, running out comfortable 3-0 winners at home to QPR, but Laws is confident the Norfolk side will approach this game in the right manner.

He said: "Glenn Roeder has already mentioned that it's the club's responsibility to put on a performance and to give it their best shot at winning the game. Their training camp has been relaxed and that's because they achieved what they set out to achieve in maintaining Championship status."

Laws knows all too well that having nothing to play for is not a cue to switch off as he learned in his time with Nottingham Forest as a player. Wednesday lost the final top tier game of the 1989/90 season 3-0 to Laws' side and subsequently went down on goal difference.

On that contest, he said: "I've got fresh memories myself of playing for Nottingham Forest against Sheffield Wednesday, it was the last game of the season and we had nothing to play for. But I don't think Sheffield Wednesday approached the game in the right manner because they got relegated.

"We have a job to do now, the same as Norwich, who have a responsibility like every other club in this division, to perform to the best of their ability. It would be unfair and unjust on the teams around us if they came here and switched off, so I know they'll come here with the right attitude and give us a game and look to win."

With Southampton managing a draw on Monday against West Brom, other teams have been sucked into the battle against relegation, with Coventry and Blackpool not yet assured of safety.

Laws said: "It was a positive result in the sense that it's brought another two teams into the equation. We now know we can't rely on a point, we must go out there on Sunday and win the game and that's what we're going for. We're not playing for anything else other than a win."

The Owls will be backed by the highest Football League attendance of the entire season and Laws concluded by issuing a final rallying cry to Wednesdayites:

"Keep doing what you've been doing. The supporters have been tremendous from start to finish and have been the most consistent thing about the club. It will be great for them if we can finish off the season in style at home with the biggest gate of the season in the Championship by a mile."
