Laws frustrated by lack of firepower
Brian Laws was left annoyed by a lack of quality in the final third after his team dominated possession but failed to trouble Plymouth goalkeeper Romain Larrieu.
Wednesday lost 1-0 after former Owl, Steven MacLean, netted a 23rd minute winner to end Laws' unbeaten record at Hillsborough this season.
"I am very disappointed because it is our first defeat of the season at home," the Owls boss commented.
"Plymouth did a smash and grab job on us. We could have put a tent up in their half because we had 90 per cent of the possession but we didn't have the guile around their penalty area to open them up.
"Lee Grant had virtually nothing to do, particularly in the second half but we needed a goal to open the game up and we would then have gone on and won it."
Laws had originally thought that MacLean had been offside when scoring but conceded replays showed that he had been played onside following a corner for the visitors.
"We defended the corner well but when the ball was cleared from the box one of our players must have been playing Steve MacLean onside," he said. "But it was not a case of Plymouth coming here and playing us off the park we just could not open them up.
"We had umpteen corners and we just put the ball into their goalkeeper's hands and our crossing was awful at times, which disappoints me because we have players who can deliver balls."
Laws stated that Richard Wood only just made the match having suffered sickness prior to the game.
