Manager pleased with reaction
Brian Laws was delighted to see his side recover from a half time deficit to record a memorable 3-2 win against Norwich City at Hillsborough.
After a disappointing first half in which the home side conceded a Sammy Clingan penalty goal, Wednesday bounced back through Tony McMahon's first professional goal in his last appearance on loan. Leon Clarke's excellent finish saw the Owls hit the lead before Leroy Lita pulled it back to 2-2.
Marcus Tudgay wrapped up the points for Wednesday with an excellent far post header though before Norwich were reduced to ten men.
"I am delighted to get a result and two back-to-back wins which is as important as anything else," Laws said. "It was a game of two halves though and Norwich were more up for it in the first half; they wanted the ball more than we did and we couldn't get a grip of that.
"The all-important goal for them gave them a lift but it's the first time we have gone a goal down this season and reacted in a positive manner (at home). We got a goal back, took control of the game and started to steamroller them before they got a second."
The Owls boss continued: "It was important when we took the lead (at 2-1) that we didn't switch off but Lita got in with their next attack through a throw-in so I was disappointed with that.
"It started to get a bit scrappy but then we got the third and we could have got four or five in the end. It was a good win though and that's the important thing.
"The first half was poor but we set the tone for that with a lot of players not on par. Our half time team talk rattled a few players and it got them back on track."
Laws was also keen to praise the performance of Leon Clarke, who has scored four goals in nine games. He pleaded with some of the Owls fans to support the powerful front man too.
"Leon is in great form but the supporters don't forgive him for much to be fair to them; he makes one mistake and the fans get on his back," the manager said. "He has been strong and he set the tone for the second half, he scored one goal and could have had another, I'm really pleased for Leon because he is really starting to find his form."
