The Owls take on Derby County at home and QPR away in the space of three days this Easter and Brian Laws is looking forward to the programme, not least because of the improving fitness of his squad.

Leon Clarke, Akpo Sodje and Etienne Esajas are all set to feature this weekend with Derby first up at Hillsborough on Saturday.

"Our Easter programme is looking fairly healthy at this point; Leon Clarke has been working with us this week on the training pitch and he is available for the matches this weekend," Laws said.

"On top of that, Akpo Sodje and Etienne Esajas have both had another run out in the reserves so we are showing positivity in that everyone is vying for a place in the team.

"The only negatives are the two long-term injuries to Steve Watson and Michael Gray, while Luke Varney cannot play against Derby County due to the terms of his loan from them."

Laws now has welcome selection options though and will hope to see some kind of impact from his returning forwards.

"Previously I haven't had many options in terms of selection but now it seems I will have the opportunity to make a few changes if I want to and that should have a positive effect on the players on the pitch because they can see there are quality players on the bench champing at the bit to replace them," he said.

"With two games in quick succession it is paramount that we use our players sensibly and therefore the likes of Esajas and Sodje will have a role to play this weekend."

Derby County are now managed by Laws' former Nottingham Forest team mate, Nigel Clough, but Laws will not be in too accommodating a mood on Saturday.

"Derby will be tough opponents because they still need a couple of results to ensure their place in the Championship for next season," Laws stated. "They have some good players and we have to be wary about that but we will be focussing on ourselves because Easter is an opportunity for us to win two more games and push further up the table.

"I know Nigel Clough and his assistant Gary Crosby from playing at Nottingham Forest for six years and I have a lot of respect for them but I will not be doing them any favours on Saturday, that is for sure.

"Rob Hulse is probably one of their key dangermen and is a very capable striker and they also have Kris Commons who can score a goal from nothing but I am confident we have plenty to deal with them and secure the three points for Sheffield Wednesday."
