Sheffield Wednesday manager, Brian Laws, has warned his players to be wary of what he expects will be a backlash from Saturday's opponents, Derby County.
The Rams take on the Owls at Pride Park smarting from a 6-1 midweek thumping at Cardiff City. And Laws insists that Nigel Clough's shellshocked side will first and foremost look to atone for that heavy defeat in front of their own supporters at the weekend.
He said: "Make no bones about it, this is an important game that will not be easy. Derby took a real hiding at Cardiff and will be smarting from that. You look at most of the teams that have taken a heavy defeat and it's a fair and honest bet that they bounce back in the next game.
"Look at us last year at Reading, we lost 6-0 and we responded in our next game. So we know what to expect - a backlash. When I heard the score at Cardiff, I thought it was the worst possible one for us. Great for Cardiff but not for us!"
The Owls boss, though, is hopeful of a positive result at Pride Park and confident of an entertaining game. Like his late famous father, Nigel Clough encourages his teams to keep the ball on the deck, which should make for an eye-catching clash in the Midlands.
Laws continued: "Derby want to play expansive football and so do we, so the evidence is there for a good spectacle.
"The point that we got at Crystal Palace gives us that extra edge to go for it and be positive. We are playing good football, we are amongst the top scorers in the Championship and we will be going to Derby in a very positive frame of mind."
