Laws targets maximum haul

Posted on: Tue 20 Oct 2009

Wednesday boss Brian Laws is hoping to follow up Saturday's win against Coventry City with victories over Preston North End and Watford, classing both as 'winnable games.'

The Owls currently sit 13th in the table after the weekend's results but two wins from the next two matches could propel Wednesday into the top six and this is the aim for Laws.

He said: "The league is obviously very tight in terms of points so a win on Tuesday and then against Watford could move us high up the table.

"I look at these next two games against Preston and Watford and they are both winnable. It's easy to say it and harder to achieve it, but they are winnable games and ones we should be looking to take three points from.

"If we can achieve that, it will be a fantastic week and it will put the team in a really strong position in the league."

Preston went down in emphatic fashion on the road last time out against Queens Park Rangers, losing 4-0, but Laws knows where the Lilywhites can hurt Wednesday, particularly with the power they have in the final third.

He continued: "I'm sure Alan Irvine, who has had his team working really well, will come at us at Hillsborough. The front four from Preston are very strong and very workmanlike.

"But they lost heavily on Saturday and they will be looking for a rebound as most teams generally do so they may make a few changes.

"They are still sixth in the league but we're at home, we have a cracking record at Hillsborough so we have everything to play for. You can't take anything for granted but we will certainly be approaching these games with optimism."

Regarding team news, Laws could stick with the same side that beat the Sky Blues on Saturday.

The Owls boss is hopeful Marcus Tudgay will be back available for first team action soon but has said he will not rush the striker back prematurely when he has four other strikers fit for duty.

He went on: "We've been really pleased with Marcus' progress and he is itching to get back in the team but we also have to make sure when he is back, he is 100 per cent.

"While we have Clarke and Varney, Akpo Sodje and Jeffers backing them up, it gives Marcus a chance to get his neck right."
