Gaffer hopeful on Owls duo

Posted on: Fri 09 Apr 2010

Alan Irvine could welcome Jermaine Johnson and Lewis Buxton back into the squad when the Owls travel to Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The Teesside clash is the latest massive match for Wednesday in their battle against the drop and Irvine's travelling party may be swelled by Johnson and Buxton.

Both players missed the Easter Monday defeat to Bristol City after playing key roles in the preceding game at QPR when the Owls posted a valuable point.

Irvine said: "Jermaine Johnson is training again, which is really good news. Lewis Buxton didn't train today, he is still a bit tight, it was obviously a massive ask for him to play the full 90 minutes against QPR. But I'm hoping he will be training with us on Friday and he'll be okay. We will consider all the options for Middlesbrough."

With just four games to go this season, the Owls will head north in a positive frame of mind. And Irvine insists the team will be out to record a travelling triumph as opposed to sitting back in the hope of a point.

He explained: "We have to try and win, that is for sure. You can't go to a place like Middlesbrough and be completely wide open but you have to make sure you have a threat.

"But that can be done from having a good shape and being solid. We're not scoring enough goals but we are creating chances.

"We had 25 attempts on goal against Bristol City but we didn't score any goals. You would expect to score at least one if not two goals from that number."
