Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine has issued his deepest sympathies to the Wednesday fans following relegation on Sunday.
The Owls drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace, a result which has sent Wednesday into League One, but Irvine was quick to praise the support his players received on Sunday at Hillsborough and indeed throughout the season.
He said: "The fans were magnificent and I really feel for them. We have to now try and move on and hopefully give the fans a team that they will be proud of for the future.
"All I can say to the supporters is that we will never leave anything to chance. We can never be accused of not working hard and doing everything we can possibly do to be successful.
"Anyone who knows the way we work, I'm sure would agree with that.I can't make any promises to our supporters other than that they will get our total commitment."
Palace took the lead in the first half through Alan Lee but Wednesday were back level before the break when Leon Clarke curled his strike beyond Julian Speroni.
Against the run of play, the Eagles were back in front as Darren Ambrose slotted past Grant to finish off a quick Palace counter attack.
And despite a late rally from the Owls which saw Darren Purse prod home an equaliser three minutes from time, the crucial winner was to evade the hosts and Irvine admits the feeling of relegation is one very difficult to take.
"I'm very disappointed, it's a very difficult thing to experience," he said.
"We had enough pressure and chances to have won the game but the opposition went up the park and scored a goal very much against the run of play in the second half.
"That gave us a mountain to climb and one which we almost did but we missed our chances."
"We've had a lot of games where we should have got more than what we did but we didn't and a big part of that is down to us not being clinical in front of goal. Again today, we've had more than enough chances to have won the game."
"If you look at the league and see how many goals teams are scoring, that will quite often tell you where the team is going to finish and we have missed a lot of our chances in a lot of games."
