Irvine pleased with Miller progress

Posted on: Fri 20 Aug 2010

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine has revealed that midfielder Tommy Miller is doing well on the comeback trail following his recent hamstring injury.

Miller has sat out the Owls' opening three games but Irvine says the former Ipswich man is now back in training and giving a good account of himself. Irvine also issued an update on injured winger Jermaine Johnson.

He said: "Tommy Miller trained today like everybody else and trained very well so I'm absolutely delighted about that.

"Everybody trained apart from Jermaine Johnson so I'm pleased about that as well. I want all my best players available and JJ is one of our best players. Hopefully we will have him back soon."

Johnson's absence aside, the Owls are running at near full strength and Irvine says he is pleased with what he seen on the training ground ahead of Saturday's home clash with Brighton:

"The training has been very good, of a really high standard. We've had a game today, that was excellent and a lot of people were staking a claim within that.

"Obviously you have to take into consideration the performances in games when you are picking the team. But certainly the lads are all training well."

Albion will land in Sheffield on the back of a decent start to the season that has yielded a win and a draw in League One so far.

The Seagulls posted a creditable win at Swindon on the opening day before hosting an entertaining draw with Rochdale last weekend.

Irvine said: "Brighton are a good footballing team and encouraged to play out from the back. They have played a few formations in the games they have played so far.

"They went to Swindon and played 4-5-1, then they played a different formation in the game against Rochdale last week.

"I'm not too sure exactly what kind of formation they will come with on Saturday. They may revert to the 4-5-1 that got them the 2-1 win against Swindon or they may stick with the formation that got them a draw against Rochdale.

"Gus Poyet will have his own ideas about coming to Hillsborough and getting a result. We'll find out what his tactics are once the game starts."
