Irvine delighted with Pools rout

Posted on: Sat 28 Aug 2010
Alan Irvine has expressed his delight following the Owls' emphatic 5-0 victory at Hartlepool on Saturday.

Wednesday romped to victory at Victoria Park and the manager has hailed the professionalism of his team, who now sit proudly on top of the League One table.

He said: "It was a thoroughly professional performance and I'm absolutely delighted. Hartlepool is a tough place to come to, I watched them against Sheffield United and they looked a very good side.

"Wigan won there in midweek in the cup but I thought 3-0 was a very harsh result considering the quality of Hartlepool's performance.

"This result today was fantastic for us and we are certainly heading in the right direction, but there is always work to be done."

Irvine struggled to pick out one Owls candidate for man of the match given the individual quality all over the part at Hartlepool.

From front to back, Wednesday were calm, composed and assured, completely nullifying the rare attacking threat from the home side.

Irvine added: "There were so many good performances out there today and I go back to use the word professionalism, because that is what the players showed.

"I am delighted but it is only one result. The minute anyone starts to think this division is easy, then we would find ourselves in trouble."
