Wednesday secured their third consecutive win after a gripping final 15 minutes at Carrow Road in which all three goals were scored. They went ahead through a Lee Camp own goal after Madjid Bougherra's piledriver hit the bar and went in off the keeper. Deon Burton extended the visitors' advantage before Dion Dublin pulled one back. And Wednesday had a late penalty given against them before the decision was reversed once the referee saw the offside flag.
Owls boss Brian Laws had been faced with a tough selection decision in midfield, with Kenny Lunt available again after suspension. Yoann Folly was the man who missed out as the manager opted to bring Lunt straight back in, with Glenn Whelan keeping his place. However, the first meaningful action of the game saw the Irishman rule himself out of next week's meeting with Birmingham City by collecting his fifth booking of the season for a foul on Darren Huckerby.
After eight minutes, Wednesday had a let-off when Adam Drury robbed Bougherra and crossed towards Peter Thorne, who was foiled by Tommy Spurr's brave defensive header. Then another mistake by the Algerian international resulted in Huckerby, who had signed a new Canaries contract before kick-off, bearing down on Mark Crossley. Fortunately for the Owls, he screwed his shot well wide.
Gradually the Owls settled and, while clear-cut chances were initially at a premium, Lunt's volley from 30 yards - which was equal to any of the strikes at Leicester the previous weekend - was turned aside by Camp. As the Owls' pressure grew, Chris Brunt got a sight of goal with a chance from which he would have expected to score. Dublin's header broke to him on the edge of the box but the winger sliced his powerful shot just wide.

Wednesday were getting closer and closer and Spurr was the next to threaten, Camp saving well from the defender after he had played a neat one-two with Marcus Tudgay. It was a good end to the half by Laws' men, whose closest call had come when City striker Peter Thorne was just wide with a header from Huckerby's cross.
The visitors continued in the ascendancy at the start of the second period and Norwich lived dangerously when Camp only just managed to deal with Brunt's swerving drive from 20 yards. The hosts were pressing forward as well, although Crossley dealt comfortably with tame efforts by Dickson Etuhu and Carl Robinson.
Midway through the half there was a massive let-off for either side. First, Wayne Andrews' goalbound shot was headed past his own post by Jason Shackell. Then, Huckerby found Andy Hughes in space but Spurr did brilliantly to lunge across and deflect his shot over.
With 18 minutes to go, Norwich had a Thorne header ruled out in a good decision by referee Andy Woolmer. Replays showed that Crossley had been blocked by Shackell when attempting to come for Robinson's corner and Woolmer whistled well before the ball crossed the line.

A breathless closing period began with the opening goal on 79 minutes. Lunt chipped a ball to the edge of the penalty area, where Burton chested it down to Bougherra. The defender's crashing volley came back off the underside of the bar and went in off the back of keeper Camp.
Then it was 2-0 and, finally, Burton got a deserved first goal of the season from open play. Spurr's cross was missed by Dublin and the former Derby striker was on hand to slot home from six yards.

Nerves were frayed for the closing stages when Dublin rose unmarked at the far post to head Robinson's free-kick home. And the Owls thought they had blown it when referee Woolmer pointed to the penalty spot for handball against Lee Bullen. Fortunately the assistant referee had correctly flagged for offside against Thorne and the man in the middle reversed his decision.
The hosts threw everyone forward in search of the leveller but Wednesday survived over six minutes of injury-time to climb to 11th in the Championship table - just three points off the play-off places.
