Wednesday restored some credibility following the drubbing at Reading with a respectable point against Ipswich.
The Owls went down 6-0 on Tuesday at the Madejski but there were no signs of that shambolic display at Hillsborough as Brian Laws' side gave a decent account of themselves in a game of few opportunities.
Both sides saw shots come back off the woodwork and that was as close as a low-key contest came to being decided.
Laws made one change from the side thumped in midweek, with Steve Watson reclaiming a place and Deon Burton dropping to the bench.
Ipswich enjoyed the better of the early exchanges but it was Wednesday that came close to taking the lead with their first attack. Marcus Tudgay picked up a loose ball midway in the Tractor Boys' half and advanced to thump a blistering effort from 25 yards that rattled the crossbar. Jermaine Johnson miscued a snapshot from the rebound.
Tudgay then sent a firm header narrowly over the bar from Etienne Esajas' accurate free kick and Jon Stead poked a good opening wide at the other end as possession remained relatively even.
Watson went on a mazy run from the engine room - beating three players along the way - but the veteran could only manage a tame effort from 12 yards that failed to trouble Richard Wright.
Esajas teed up Jermaine Johnson on the half hour mark and the Jamaican's flicked header was comfortably saved by Wright.
Ipswich played some neat, passing football without causing real alarm in the opposition defence while the same could be said of the hosts as the first half ended goalless.
Both sides were unchanged for the resumption and the second half set off as the first had ended, with few chances of note.
Indeed, it was ten minutes in before a serious shot was struck when Johnson weaved his way from the attention of two defenders to force Wright into a low diving save.
The visitors responded with their best chance of the game as Lee Grant came to Wednesday's rescue. The home defence failed to deal with a looping ball from the left that fell kindly to the feet of Alan Quinn, whose powerful drive was expertly diverted by the Owls keeper.
The contest soon reverted to type, though, until ten minutes from time when Ipswich almost snatched the points. David Norris flicked the ball over Richard Wood to find space in the danger zone and his resulting shot beat Grant only to come back into play from the crossbar. Norris then forced another fine save by Grant with just five minutes left to play.
Defeat would have been hard on Wednesday following a workmanlike performance and in truth neither side truly deserved to emerge with victory. For the Owls it was very much a matter of restoring pride after Reading and to that end, the mission was accomplished.
