Rob Burch praised the heart shown by the Owls team after their last-gasp victory over Hartlepool United earned a place in the Carling Cup third round.

Yoann Folly's goal in the final minute of extra-time secured progression following a titanic battle with the Teessiders, who had led before Deon Burton equalised for Wednesday.

Ex-Tottenham keeper Burch came in for his SWFC debut and was pleased to help the side get back to winning ways.

"The main thing is that we're in the hat, which will be exciting, let's hope we can get a big club and kick on," Rob exclusively told WednesdayWorld.

"Our performances haven't been too bad, there is some good stuff to work on and the lads showed a lot of character against Hartlepool. Everyone dug in and played their part."

Burch grabbed the opportunity to showcase his abilities against Pools for the first time in a senior Owls game. The 23-year-old feels he has made large strides in recent weeks and was grateful to get the platform to come into the side.

"The gaffer has been honest with me in saying during pre-season that I'd get a fair chance. I felt I was a bit off form in pre-season after coming back from a leg operation, I was maybe three weeks behind and Granty came in and played well.

"I've been working hard with Billy Mercer and I've found my feet and felt good over the last month. I was pleased to get that first win out of the win and hopefully I've done enough to keep in on Saturday."
