Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Rob Burch seized the spirit of Valentines Day on Thursday by proposing to his long-term girlfriend, Kerry Sharp, live on national television - video footage courtesy of This Morning.

Kerry works as producer behind the scenes on ITV's This Morning programme and Rob surprised his new fiancée by appearing back stage with a big bunch of flowers on the show at lunchtime.

The romantic goalkeeper promptly got down on one knee to pop the question to his girlfriend of six years and, Kerry, who was completely taken aback by the situation had no hesitation in accepting his proposal.

"It was all a bit strange," Burch admitted. "I had wanted to do it like this and I had been talking to Billy (Mercer - goalkeeping coach) and Granty (Lee Grant) this week and they both said I should go for it."

"Kerry works on this morning and I had talked to my mum about it as well and she said I should do it too so I went for it. I am so glad she said 'yes' and we are both really happy together."
