Season Review - September
The Owls started September with the difficult task of hosting newly promoted Bristol City who were yet to trip up in the Championship following their promotion as runners-up from League One.
The Robins went into the clash at S6 on the back of a League Cup defeat to Man City and the Wednesday camp was confident of a first Championship win.
Despite the best of the game's action coming from Laws' men, the visitors left with all three points after a single goal just four minutes in - the Robins only shot on target, leaving the Owls still searching for a break in the League. Wednesday enjoyed almost two thirds of the possession but failed to convert their chances.
The international break gave Laws the chance to settle his side down after the rocky start - now with four consecutive league defeats. The next Championship fixture was at Preston who were also suffering in the early stages of the campaign, with only one league point to their name, having come from a 0-0 draw with Norwich on the opening day.
Striker Akpo Sodje and winger Etienne Esajas made their full debuts for the Owls at Deepdale but Wednesday felt aggrieved by the manner in which they conceded the only goal of the game. Youl Mawene appeared to foul Francis Jeffers just outside the 18-yard box and the home side swiftly broke into the Owls territory and netted through Paul Gallagher on 28 minutes.

A dramatic turn around in fortunes was now needed as the Owls were in danger of being cut adrift at the foot of the table. Burnley were next on the list to grace S6, but the result was all too similar as Wednesday slumped to six straight defeats.
Goals either side of half time from the visitors left Wednesday rooted to the foot of the table after a 2-0 reverse and, with the prospect of a tough game against Hull City to come the following week, things were not set to get any easier.
The Tigers came to Hillsborough on the back of a draw with Stoke and a victory at Wolves. However, it was to be lucky number seven for the Owls as Franny Jeffers' stunning first half strike was enough for Wednesday to record their first win and put points on the board. The strike rounded off a well-worked move from Wednesday - and not surprisingly the goal ranked as one of the best this season.

Despite defeat by Everton (0-3 at Hillsborough) in the third round of the League Cup, Brian Laws led his side to their second league victory of the campaign by beating Norwich City 1-0 at Carrow Road. Wade Small's strike on 76 minutes was enough to give the Owls all three points in front of the Sky TV cameras and lift them from the foot of the table, swapping places with QPR.
Wednesday seemed to have turned a corner - now just one point short of escaping the bottom three but had a tough month ahead with league leaders Watford and promotion chasing Stoke to come.
