Hirst speaks candidly on an incident-packed SWFC career that spawned 128 goals from 309 starts in all competitions and led to recognition, of course, on the international stage with England.
The interview charts Hirsty's progression from a starry-eyed hopeful at Barnsley and reveals how the gifted striker developed into a cult hero 15 miles south at Hillsborough - after initially being rejected in these parts.
David speaks openly on his many ups and downs whilst at Wednesday, including the devastating form that stood him alongside Alan Shearer during the early stages of both strikers' careers.
He also expands in detail on the dramatic night in Germany when he suffered red-card heartbreak as the Owls fell to Kaiserslautern in the UEFA Cup.
David opens up on the injury problems that ravaged his career - revealing the personal regrets as his playing days came to an untimely end - the initial struggles at Hillsborough, and, on the other side of the coin, his flourishing strike partnership with Paul Williams.
Wembley glory with Wednesday is also covered and so too is his final fling in these parts - Hirst's testimonial that attracted a string of world-class players to Hillsborough.
All of the above and much more is covered within this revealing one-on-one interview that kicks off today and, remember, is EXCLUSIVE to Wednesday World.
