New Owls loan star Jimmy Smith is itching to pull on the blue and white shirt and make a positive impression here at Hillsborough.

The Chelsea midfielder has put pen to paper on a temporary deal that runs until January 10, 2009, at which point there will be an option for Smith to extend his S6 stay until the end of the season.

And Jimmy has exclusively told Wednesday World of his desire to do exactly that.

He said: "I'm here until January but if I'm in a position to stay longer, that means I'll be doing well for Sheffield Wednesday and that's what I'm aiming for.

"I'm honoured to be here and I'm focussed on impressing the manager and the fans here.

"I have plenty of Championship games under the belt and that can only be a good thing when you come to a big club like Sheffield Wednesday."

The 21-year-old Londoner, who has enjoyed twin loan spells with QPR and Norwich, can operate across the midfield but prefers to play from a central berth. He pinpoints an attacking instinct and ability to create as major assets, together with finding the target himself.

"I can play anywhere in midfield as I'm both-footed but I prefer to play down the middle," Smith explained.

"I keep running all day and I can create goals and score them as well. I like to get a foot on the ball and pick my passes, I also like bursting forward from midfield."

Having been with parent club Chelsea since the age of nine, Smith has an excellent grounding that he acknowledges is sometimes difficult to fully comprehend.

The Owls new-boy has spent his formative years at Stamford Bridge surrounded by a galaxy of international all stars, education from which continues to prove invaluable.

He added: "You sometimes don't realise how lucky you are going into work every day to train with the likes of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Michael Ballack.

"You can only learn from these players, they're amazing.

"I have a lot of superstars in front of me at Chelsea so the manager wants the young players to go out on loan to get some games under the belt and that's why I'm here.

"Ben Sahar told me that Sheffield Wednesday is a great club in a nice area, he really enjoyed his time here last season and I'm be looking to do the same now."
