Burton's Jamaican international side face two imminent qualifiers for the South African showpiece - against Mexico and Honduras respectively - and the SWFC striker is on course to feature in both key games.
With one World Cup, in France 2008, already under the belt, Deon is now vying for inclusion in another and remains confident Jamaica can make his dream come true.
He exclusively told Wednesday World: "To have a chance to go to the World Cup in 2010 will wrap up a decent career. If, or should I say when we qualify, I couldn't think of a better way to finish, 12 years after first playing in the World Cup.
"We got a great point at Canada last week so if we can get something from Mexico at home next week then we are really ready to go."
Having been recalled back to duty last season after two years in the wilderness, Burton is enjoying a second wind on the international stage. Yet the 31-year-old was always confident of rejoining the Reggae Boyz and has proved as good as his word.
He reasoned: "I've always said as long as I was still playing at club level I would always be available for the national team.
"Even though I was out of the fold for over two years, I still had a chance of getting back in.
"When I put my mind to something I like to achieve it and I couldn't be more pleased with how things are going."
*Burton is priced at a generous 9/1 with bet365 to score first or last when the Owls visit Swansea on Saturday. Click here for all the best odds ahead of the game.
