Etienne Esajas has spoken of his delight at scooping the Handley Brown Player of the Month award for August.

The Dutch winger scored a landslide victory in the maiden vote of 2008/09 following a string of excellent displays, during which he also scored his first goals for the club.

The award is Esajas' second of his Hillsborough stint, coming almost exactly a year after he topped the September poll last season.

He exclusively told swfc.co.uk: "I am really happy about this award because it comes from the fans, and I would like to thank them very much.

"I am pleased with the start to the season I have had. I have scored some goals but more importantly I am in the team and in the plans of the gaffer."

Esajas attributes his impressive current form to a good pre-season in the Owls camp, which was denied him last time out after joining SWFC in late August.

He added: "I am feeling really good at the moment and that is because I had a good pre-season with the rest of the players and started the new season very fit.

"I didn't do that last time, I joined the club after the season had started and it was difficult to switch on straight away after coming over from Holland.

"But I am used to the football now in England, I am enjoying myself and I need to build on the good work."
