Spurr is prepared for a tough challenge and expects a very difficult game from the inform promotion contenders.

He said: "Coming down from the Premier League, they have a strong squad and after two derby games it's going to be hard work for the boys.

"If we could get a couple of people back fit and in the squad, it will give us a boost ahead of this weekend. Confidence in general is high, we just need to sort our away form out."

Looking back to Tuesday, it was a mixed evening for Spurr against Barnsley, losing 2-1 but captaining his side for the first time, in the absence of Richard Wood.

He said: "We let ourselves down in the first half, maybe a hangover from Sunday, which is no excuse."

"But it was a massive boost for the gaffer to turn to me even though there were people more experienced than me. I was proud to wear the armband, it was an ambition fulfilled for me."

And ending on his appearances for the Owls: "I'm obviously very proud every time I go out and play for Sheffield Wednesday, I'm just happy that I have got to so many appearances so soon."
