We need to get back on track

Posted on: Sun 26 Oct 2008

Richard Wood insists that Wednesday need to get back to winning ways, beginning with a revenge mission against Plymouth on Tuesday.

The Owls host Paul Sturrock's side looking to avenge the 4-0 reverse at Home Park earlier this month - whilst also putting two quickfire away defeats to bed.

SWFC have gone down at both Barnsley and Birmingham this week, prompting this from team captain Wood:

"The last two games have been disappointing, there's no doubt about that. But those two games are the first we've lost on the bounce this season and I think that says something about the character of the lads.

"But we need to get another win at home and also put right the 4-0 defeat we suffered at Plymouth. If we stay on the right track at Hillsborough, I'm confident the papers won't be reporting three successive defeats for Wednesday next week."

Wood has also voiced concern over the Owls' hectic current schedule that he believes has cost his team vital points.

He added: "I think it was ridiculous that we were forced to play two big derby games in three days for a start. After we played so well against Sheffield United, there was no time for recovery or for enjoying the win.

"We were straight back out there with another game, this time at Barnsley, and a few days later we travelled to the league leaders and lost. I'm totally confident that with a healthier squad, we were well capable of taking four points from those two games but it wasn't to be."
