Plymouth match - minute by minute
7: The Owls had an early set piece in a dangerous position after Etienne Esajas was brought down on the left flank. Steve Watson's delivery was cleared only as far as Jermaine Johnson who struck well but straight into Plymouth's crowded defence.
8: A great pass over the top by Francis Jeffers found Watson in space but the Wednesday utility man was quickly closed down by Romain Larrieu, resulting in a goal kick.
15: Jeffers was quick to latch onto a forward punt by Richard Wood and got good purchase on his effort at goal - tipped over by Larrieu.
17: More danger for the visitors as the Owls continue to pile on the early pressure. This time Johnson's headed cross wasn't cleared and Leon Clarke was nearly on hand to score his second of the season.
20: The best chance of the half fell to Clarke as a great move, once again involving Jeffers, sent Clarke on his way but fired his shot wide of the target.
22: Johnson was next to try his luck after a neat touch by Clarke sent the Jamaican through on goal, but Larrieu easily gathered his low drive
23: GOAL 0-1. It was the Pilgrims who opened the scoring against the run of play with erstwhile Owl Steve MacLean netting on his former stomping ground. From a Plymouth corner, the ball was headed back into the crowded area - finding MacLean, and whilst the Owls backline appealed for offside - the striker bundled the ball into the goal with no flag raised.
35: Booked: David McNamee cautioned for kicking the ball away.
37: Johnson found himself with a good chance to put Wednesday level after profiting from a bad clearance by McNamee. The wideman took one too many touches and Plymouth were able to get enough men behind the ball.
38: Peter Gilbert's cross almost found Clarke at the back post but for a vital interception by Chris Barker. The cross was threatening but well dealt with by the Plymouth left back.
41: Clarke continued to cause Plymouth's rearguard problems, this time getting in behind McNamee but failed to pick out the onrushing Jeffers or Johnson.
43: And it looked as though Sean McAllister had levelled the score but for his goal to be ruled out for offside. The referee felt the brunt of the crowd's frustration as the midfielder looked to have come from an onside position.
Half Time 0-1
56: Owls double sub: Richard Wood replaced by Frank Simek and Francis Jeffers replaced by Deon Burton.
59: Burton made an immediate impact with a clever overhead pass, sending Clarke one-on-one with Larrieu but a brilliant last ditch challenge denied the striker from getting his shot away.
62: Plymouth sub: David McNamee replaced by Simon Walton
68: Plymouth sub: Steve MacLean replaced Rory Fallon
70: McAllister had a great chance to equalise as Etienne Esajas picked him out with a long ball as the Owls countered a Plymouth attack. The midfielder cut inside but fired over the bar.
71: Owls sub: Akpo Sodje replaces Etienne Esajas
73: Plymouth sub: Jim Paterson replaced by Krisztian Timar
75: Booked: Paul Gallagher issued with a yellow card for a foul on Gilbert.
82: The Owls continue to throw men forward in search of the equaliser but Plymouth remain resistant at the back, defending in numbers.
90: The visitors had all but one man behind the ball and as Spurr played the ball forward, there were claims for a penalty as Burton looked to have been impeded in the air.
90: Johnson had a golden chance to equalise with the last attack of the game as Spurr's cross found the winger in plenty of space but he miss-kicked his shot and scuffed it way wide of the target.
