Francis Jeffers has issued a message of thanks to Wednesdayites for offering their full support during his barren patch prior to last weekend.

Jeffers ended something of a goal drought on Saturday against former employers Charlton, claiming his first strike of the season.

And the former England international says his level of relief was matched by the delight he felt for the fans.

He exclusively told Wednesday World: "The fans have always been on my side and I can't thank them enough.

"They were trying to suck the ball into the net on Saturday and I was so pleased for them as much as myself when the ball went in.

"Obviously, it was a big relief for me, but I always said I would score if the chances came.

"On Saturday, we got the ball down, knocked it around well and ultimately I had chances in the game and scored."

Jeffers maintains that not once did he lose confidence in front of goal through his dry spell.

Granted, he thought on occasion the ball just would not go in, but the 27-year-old knew it was only a matter of time before the tide turned.

He added: "I never ever lose the belief because I know I've done it wherever I've been.

"I've always had the confidence but when you're not scoring, you concentrate on keeping on top of your game, working hard and doing the right things on and off the pitch.

"Sometimes you think 'is it ever going to go in' but you can only think that way for a split second after the chance has gone or the keeper has made a good save.

"You get those thoughts out of your head straight away, bat on and hope another chance comes your way.

"I also don't think I'm fully at my best yet. I had a lot of time out with injury last season but I'm getting there, and getting better with every game."
