Jermaine Johnson's goal on 27 minutes gave the Owls the lead but the hosts replied with goals from Nathan Tyson and Luke Chambers to take the three points.

Gray told Wednesday World: "I'm disappointed really. First half we found ourselves in the lead and played some decent stuff and we were always causing them a threat with set pieces.

"But they got the leveller and the game started to change and obviously the sending off doesn't help. I think the referee was a little bit rash in his decision and if he would have took five seconds he might have only given him a yellow card.

"But you're always chasing the game with ten men and its difficult to stay with the team for the full 90 minutes."

Despite the defeat, Gray is keen to take the positives from the game and is looking to bounce back immediately on Saturday when the Owls host Birmingham City at Hillsborough.

He said: "Credit to the lads the effort was there, it was difficult to play the football that we want to play - systems have to change when you lose men and you find it hard at the end of the game. I think that's where they over powered us in the last 20-25 minutes of the match.

He concluded: "We've got to take the positives now, pick ourselves up and luckily we don't have to wait another seven days for a game."
