New signing Lewis Buxton was left disappointed on Saturday after his first goal for Wednesday looked to have beaten promotion hopefuls Birmingham City, but for another late strike from Kevin Phillips.
The utility man headed the Owls in front on 57 minutes but Phillips was on hand to notch another late strike - scoring in the 93rd minute, matching his late winner for West Brom at Hillsborough last season.
"We're obviously disappointed with conceding a goal so late on," Buxton said. "I think we could have done better at the back stick, they were queuing up and Kevin Phillips was there to put it away.
"Up until the last ten minutes I think we played some really good football and had a couple of opportunities to finish them off but the game goes on until the last kick and we're disappointed now not to have beaten a team in the top three of the table."
The 25-year-old defender put some of the blame for conceding a late goal down to nerves, giving possession away too easily and inviting pressure from the visitors.
He said: "As the clock was ticking I think we got a bit nervous and stopped doing the things that were creating chances and pushing us up the pitch. We were giving the ball away too easily - we should have knocked the ball into the corners and try to work a throw in.
"But attacks came thick and fast at the end of the game and obviously they got their equaliser."
On his goal he said: "I'm not bothered about scoring goals it's just devastating for us to lose our lead that late on when we've played so well. Obviously I'm really happy to have scored but that's not my priority, my priority is stopping them.
Of course Buxton signed permanently at Wednesday until 2011 following a successful loan spell from Stoke, with his aim now to improve as a player as well as to help the Owls climb the table.
He concludes: "It means I can get on with my football and not to worry about where my next contract will be and where I'm going to play. It's a weight off my shoulders but I don't want to relax, I want to kick on and improve as a player and help the team improve as well."
