Last season saw Tommy Spurr made 43 starts for the Owls, grabbing three goals and cementing his name in the first team squad. Before heading on his holiday, Tommy spoke to
Wednesday World about how he thought the 2008/09 season had gone.
"It's been a long season, we've had some good results and some terrible results," he said, "At the end of the day it's an improvement on last year and that's what we've been striving for and I feel like I've improved, which is something I'm always looking to do each year."
Tommy came through the ranks at the Wednesday Academy, where he usually played in central defence. He has since moved into the role of left back, which he is enjoying; "I love playing left back, I love joining in and in going forward and being involved in creating goals - that's something that I like to be a part of."
"I feel like I'm getting forwards a bit more, growing in confidence and learning how to play left back. I take each game as it comes. I just want to play every game and if I can do that then I must be doing something right."
One of the highlights of Tommy's season, aside from his goal against Fulham, has to be his performance in the game against Sheffield United. Tommy's first minute goal helped to seal the three points at Bramall Lane and lead the team to the first derby double in 95 years.
"I remember stopping over at a hotel the night before, stuff goes through your head about what's going to happen in the game," he said. "I wasn't expecting the first minute and my first touch to be a goal. It's a dream come true and you can't describe the feeling afterwards."
Sheffield Wednesday's target next year is the play-offs, which Spurr is confident the team can achieve: "I think the team we've got at the moment is a good team, were not far away from being a decent side. We need to get a bit more consistency in the side to push on and improve for next season."
