Owls to start with Barnsley at home

Posted on: Wed 17 Jun 2009

Sheffield Wednesday will start the 2009/10 Championship campaign by hosting a South Yorkshire derby against Barnsley on Saturday, August 8.

The match against the Tykes is sure to spark the imagination with regional pride at stake and will be followed by trips to Peterborough United (August 15) and Newcastle United (August 19).

Brian Laws' previous team, Scunthorpe United, will be the second opponents at Hillsborough on August 22 with a trip to Plymouth completing the August fixtures the following Saturday.

September will see Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough at Hillsborough before a trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United on September 19.

Wednesday's home fixture against the Blades is set to be played on April 17, 2010 - the Owls penultimate home game, before concluding the season in S6 against Crystal Palace on May 2.

Owls fans can also look forward to facing Newcastle United at home on Boxing Day, which is likely to draw a very high attendance during the festive break.
