After a campaign disrupted by injury, the 28-year-old frontman is desperate to be back on the pitch and the scoresheet.

Sodje told Wednesday World: "I'm fully fit and ready to go for pre-season. I'm really looking forward to the new season because I'm confident my fitness is much better now."

The talisman was too much to handle on the opening day against Burnley last season, scoring twice, but persistent hamstring problems left Sodje sidelined for most of 2008/09.

But after undergoing treatment in the summer from a leading hamstring specialist in Munich, Germany, Sodje is confident the injury problems are behind him.

He continued: "I've been to see one of the best doctors for hamstring problems and he's given me a few injections and found the problem.

"I had a couple of games when I was away and I haven't had any problems since so I'm ready to go for pre-season."

Any extra incentive for Sodje to be ready in time came with the news that Wednesday will kick off 2009/10 against local rivals Barnsley at Hillsborough.

There will also be a head-to-head battle with his nephew, Onome, who recently signed for the Oakwell side.

On the Tykes clash he said: "It excites me because I can remember the last time I played against Barnsley and I scored the winning goal.

"There's more to look forward to for me as my nephew, Onome, has just signed for Barnsley, so hopefully we'll start the season by beating them.

"I'm fully fit for the game and I want to get back out on the pitch and start scoring goals again because that's what I am here to do, score goals for Sheffield Wednesday."

Fans are reminded that if they choose to pay for their 09/10 season ticket on their Owls Mastercard, they can benefit from six months' interest-free credit.
