Sheffield Wednesday are grateful this week to receive the voluntary help of fans' group Wednesdayite, who are helping to prepare Hillsborough Stadium for the 2009/10 season.

Former Owls star and radio favourite, John Pearson, was on hand to meet the volunteers and also roll up his sleeves.

He said: "What the fans are doing is great. They are giving their time to the club when we need them most. We want to prepare for a Premiership push next season and we need all hands on deck. Our fans are a credit to the club and this just proves their worth even more."

Fans help with Stadium clean up

Wednesdayite director, Irma Kennedy, is in charge of organising volunteers for various tasks around the ground: She said: "Wednesdayite are proud to be supporting the club in the run up to the new season. Things like cleaning the seats, helping with administration and sweeping the stadium all help and we have volunteers who are on hand to help out.

"Sheffield Wednesday have welcomed our help and that's a fantastic boost to us. Whilst we are an independent group, we feel part of the club now and that's what we've wanted all along."

Fans are urged to contact Wednesdayite if they do have any spare time to volunteer at the club by emailing enquiries@wednesdayite.com
