PUMA deal aims to aid Children's Hospital

Posted on: Mon 07 Sep 2009

Sheffield Wednesday players who have committed to PUMA football boot deals will make a real impact every time they score this season.

As part of the players' deals with PUMA, they will receive a goal bonus for every goal scored. Three Owls players, Akpo Sodje, Darren Purse and Sean McAllister, have all decided to wear PUMA boots and donate any goal bonuses they receive from PUMA to The Children's Hospital Charity - making their goals mean more than ever before!

Owls' captain, and ambassador for the charity, Darren Purse, said: "Having seen what fantastic work the charity, and hospital, do first hand - Akpo and I were desperate to do something extra to help. When we went to the hospital to meet some of the patients, it became apparent just how much the charity relies on 'regular giving' to run and, hopefully we will be giving regularly!"

"Akpo and I agreed between ourselves that we would do this, the money can be a great boost to the charity and Sean McAllister was keen to get involved too. It's a great gesture from him, as he is one of our youngest players and it just shows how keen he is on the work this club does for the local community. I'm pleased that both of the boys have signed up to this. Now the fans have more reason than ever before to get behind the team - and get us scoring some goals!"

David Gordon of PUMA said: "We are delighted that Darren Purse, Akpo Sodje and Sean McAllister will be wearing PUMA boots this season. The gesture to donate their goal bonuses to The Children's Hospital Charity is a really refreshing move and shows that the players care about the kids and parents who spend a lot of time at the hospital.

"Our partnership with Sheffield Wednesday and The Children's Hospital through the new SWFC kit has been very rewarding and we are delighted to be associated with a club that truly values its community."

David Vernon-Edwards, director of The Children's Hospital Charity, said: "Darren and Akpo have already shown that they are great ambassadors for the hospital and I am really pleased Sean is involved with making this pledge as well. It's nice to see that Darren and Akpo are spreading the word around their team mates about the work of The Children's Hospital.

"People who can make regular donations to The Children's Hospital Charity can make a big difference to our fundraising programmes so we are grateful to the Sheffield Wednesday players for raising the profile of this opportunity."
