Esajas pleased with performance

Posted on: Tue 29 Sep 2009

Wednesday winger Etienne Esajas continued his good run of form against Cardiff City scoring his second goal in as many games and claiming two assists.

Esajas struck first for Wednesday on four minutes when he curled his free kick from 20 yards over the wall and in off the post.

And the Dutchman, who was recalled to the starting line-up, turned provider for the Owls second and third goals - crossing for Luke Varney and Leon Clarke in the second half.

Delighted with the match, Esajas said: "I went on the pitch thinking I would just give everything because if I play good I can lift the team and that's what I tried to do.

"I've not been playing regularly, but now that I am starting, I just want to show what I have got and give my all. I was really hungry for the game and was really pleased with my performance.

"I need to work on my match fitness now but I coped well today and I want to produce more performances like this."

Esajas is keen to keep hold of his starting shirt by working hard in training and impressing when given his chance on the pitch, something which he has done against both Sheffield United and Cardiff.

He went on: "I think I am good enough to be in the side and if the gaffer picks somebody else it is frustrating but I took my chance against Sheffield United, I played a good game against Cardiff but I need it to stay like this.

"We have got good players in this team but I am willing to fight for my spot. It's my last season so I want to show everything now.

"The fans were great to me and the team today so it was good to reward them with a win."
