Esajas crowned Player of the Month

Posted on: Fri 02 Oct 2009
Sheffield Wednesday star, Etienne Esajas, has been confirmed as the Handley Brown Player of the Month for September, coming in first with a whopping 50 per cent of the vote.

The winger was a late contender for the award, having featured in three of the Owls' five Championship games last month.

But Esajas made up for lost time in style, starring and scoring in the Sheffield derby at Bramall Lane before turning in a five-star display against Cardiff City a week later.

His performances were enough to secure the POTM title and the delighted Dutchman spoke exclusively to www.swfc.co.uk after being told the good news.

"I am really pleased to win this award and I would like to thank the fans very much," he said.

"I think I am playing well at the moment and I feel good to be back in the team. I am working hard at my game, I give my all in the matches and of course I hope to stay in the team.

"I have scored a couple of goals and that is good but the most important thing is that the team is picking up points."

The September vote was as follows:

1. Etienne Esajas  51 per cent
2. Michael Gray 16 per cent
3. Marcus Tudgay 10 per cent

Thanks to all supporters who took the time to vote.
