Laws continues fans' Q&A

What would take us from an inconsistent mid-table team to genuine promotion chasers?
DAVE GRIMSHAW

Inconsistency has been the problem so far this year and I can rattle off games now that we all agree we should have won. We've outplayed, out-smarted and out-thought teams, we've created more chances than the opposition and yet we've come away and lost.

For instance, you look at last Saturday against Queens Park Rangers, we were excellent and should have come away with a win. We created more opportunities than what they did, had more clear-cut chances and the same went for Preston. We murdered Preston and lost the game and there are six points immediately that spring to mind.

There are other games that we should have come away from with three points and Barnsley is another. We murdered them in the first half and could have won three games in that one alone so we could at least be seven or eight points better off and then all of a sudden you are looking at top-eight.

We are not finishing off teams and that is my criticism. We're creating and making chances but not sticking them in the back of the net. That's why we are inconsistent.

Realistically, are we in a position to add quality players in the January transfer window?
JAMES SHAWLEY

That's a difficult one because it is well documented that our budget is very tight and limited as it has been since I've been here. Therefore any new money that I use, I have to generate, that means somebody has to go out and that's the difficulty.

I'm always working on thought - what if? What if the finances do fall into place? Are we in a position to act? Are we looking? I can say we are looking. I can tell supporters that we're documenting everything and getting ready just in case.

We have to be prepared because there might only be a small window of opportunity and if it does come we have to take it.

Why are performances in night matches this season generally below those of afternoon kick-offs?
KEVIN MYERS

That's a results-based question rather than performance. It's a tough one because there is no difference between night and day matches in football terms. It's the same pitch that we play on, the conditions are no different so I can't put my finger on it.

The only reason I can give is inconsistency again and we're not performing as well at the night games in terms of results. Against Preston, though, which was a night match, they couldn't handle us and some of that football we played was out of this world.

We are performing well but the results aren't going hand in hand. It's consistency that has been our problem, results haven't been there on those night matches but the performances have been good.
