Manager continues fans' Q&A
Outside of the derby double - what has been your biggest achievement at the club?
I would say after having that disastrous start to the 2007/08 season, where we lost the first six games, that was tough. It made the season a hell of a long one, there was a lot of disappointment, a lot of fear but I have to give a big praise to our supporters.
Whilst we had one of the worst starts we ever had, it was a season that could have got us relegated but that fact that they stayed on board with us, because they could see what we were trying to achieve, and from a manager's point of view, to keep their support, was a massive achievement in itself.
I think many might have buckled under the pressure but I thought we remained very calm, continued to play good football and in the end deservedly stayed in the league. Without that magnificent support and backing from the fans, it wouldn't have been achieved.
Football is a results-based business and in any walk of life you think you can have a stable job and you know what is coming, in football you don't. Results do change opinions but I've been in the game long enough to grow a thick skin and not get carried away with it and lose my focus.
Are you at all influenced in fans calling for changes in team selection or is it something you have to disregard as a manager?
You have to disregard it because you cannot be influenced. Everybody has opinions and 20,000 supporters could each have one and they could all be different.
We're picking players because we work with them day in, day out, we know exactly what they are about, if they are carrying anything injury-wise for example, so our decisions sometimes look strange but until you get the full information, you perhaps don't understand it.
