Under-18s defeated at Leeds

Posted on: Mon 16 Nov 2009

Sheffield Wednesday Under-18s narrowly lost 1-0 to Yorkshire rivals Leeds United on Saturday.

The Owls gave an excellent account of themselves after heavy defeat against league leaders, Sunderland, the previous week and were unlucky not to come away with a share of the spoils.

A second half goal from the hosts was all that separated the two teams and academy manager, Sean McAuley, was pleased with his side's display.

He said: " The game went really well and I was pleased with how we played. At 0-0 we missed a penalty in the first half and could have gone in leading at half time.

"We continued to play well in the second but Leeds scored a really good goal. In the last 15 minutes we pushed for that equaliser and put them under pressure, the goal never came, but a pleasing performance from our lads."
