Owls winger Etienne Esajas played 90 minutes for the reserves against West Bromwich Albion on Monday evening and is now looking to work his way back into the first team.
The Dutchman insists he can be more than just an impact player from the bench and hold down a regular starting shirt.
He told Wednesday Player: "It was a good game for me in the reserves and good to get 90 minutes under my belt.
At 60 minutes, the gaffer asked me if I wanted to come off but I wanted to play a full game because I feel I need the fitness.
"I know I am more than a super-sub, I can play from the start as well. The only thing I can do is work hard and show that I am worth playing in this team. I need to be patient, keep my head down and just go for it when I'm given my chance."
The Owls travel to Portman Road on Saturday evening to face Ipswich Town live on Sky and Esajas is hoping he can stay injury free and feature regularly for Wednesday, starting this weekend.
He went on: "It's not nice to be fit and for you to get a little knock which rules you out for two weeks but I want to put my injury worries behind me and look to the future now.
"In Holland, as a left winger, I never had to track back , I just had to get the ball, cross it in and stay there. So the first couple of months in England were hard for me but I am used to the game over here now and I have adapted well.
"I'm happy to be in England, I want to stay in England. I am in the last year of my contract and I'll have to wait until the end of the season to see what happens but football-wise I would love to stay."
