McAuley: We move on

Posted on: Thu 07 Jan 2010

Sheffield Wednesday caretaker manager Sean McAuley has spoken of his frustration after seeing the Owls' weekend clash with Peterborough perish due to the inclement weather conditions.

The postponement is the second on the spin in the league for Wednesday after the Blackpool clash at Bloomfield Road scheduled for late December also fell victim to the cold snap.

But McAuley is remaining positive and says the players and staff will utilise the extra preparation time on the Middlewood Road training ground ahead of next Saturday's short hop to local rivals Barnsley.

He exclusively told swfc.co.uk: "Of course it's frustrating, especially because it's the second game to go and we want to be playing games to get us out of the relegation zone.

"But what it does do is give us more time to prepare on the training ground for our next game, which is now Barnsley next Saturday.

"There will be no excuses from us, everyone has had the same problem so we move on."

The Peterborough clash was arguably the Owls' biggest game of the season so far given the close proximity of the two teams in the Championship basement.

On paper, the game was 'must-win' for Wednesday, although McAuley insists every contest takes on the same guise for the Owls here on in.

He added: "We need to secure the wins and the points, so every game is a must-win game between now and the end of the season, not just Peterborough.

"The league table states that you can't look at it any other way."
