Assistant manager Kelly and first team coach Barr have taken a handful of sessions with the Wednesday players and both men believe the quality is there for the team to haul their way clear of relegation danger.

Kelly told Wednesday Player: "The quality is there. We may not have the biggest squad but what we do have is quality.

"It's not always a bad thing having a smaller squad because it means everyone gets involved, everyone has a chance, and that means there is a good spirit about the place.

"The first sessions have gone really well. The formalities are over and now we get on with the serious work of helping to keep this club in the Championship."

Barr echoed those thoughts and added that a hard work ethic will be a pre-requisite as the Owls prepare to resume their campaign after a three-week break from league duty.

The current cold snap put paid to successive fixtures against Blackpool and Peterborough, so Wednesday are champing at the bit ahead of the short hop to Barnsley on Saturday.

Barr said: "The minimum requirement is hard work and we will do that. We can rest assure everybody out there that we give everything to the job in hand.

"Clearly, there is quality in this squad and we need to make the players feel good about themselves again. Everybody likes to be liked.

"Wednesday blew us away in the first half when we came here with Preston earlier in the season. But for one reason or another, things haven't been gelling so we will see things and address them to take into the weekend game against Barnsley.

"January is a massive month and we can't wait to get our teeth into it."
