Hard work will pay off

Posted on: Mon 18 Jan 2010

Jermaine Johnson took his tally of goals to six in all competitions with a thunderous strike against Barnsley, as Wednesday ran out 2-1 winners at Oakwell on Saturday.

The Owls took an early lead through Tommy Spurr after just three minutes before being pegged back by Emil Hallfredsson's cross which found its way into the back of the net.

But the Jamaican pace-ace proved a constant thorn in the side of the Reds and regained Wednesday's lead in the first half - blasting into the top corner from Tudgay's flick-on.

He said: "It was a great start and I think the boys played really well. That win means a lot to us because we can start to push up the table.

"We've been feeling confident in training all week and it was good for us to show that in the game."

On a personal note for Johnson, the 29-year-old is enjoying one of his most prolific campaigns to date.

The forward has been working hard in training to improve his shooting and is pleased the results have been there for all to see on the pitch.

He went on: "I'm on six goals now so I'm really happy - I keep working hard in training and have been practising my shooting so it was pleasing to score."

But attention now has to turn to Blackpool on Tuesday and JJ is confident that if Wednesday show the same commitment at Bloomfield Road, the Owls can make it back-to-back away wins.

He added: "If you want to win you have to put in the work and we got our rewards against Barnsley.

"We showed what we can do and now we need to do that in every game. We need to go to Blackpool and put in a similar performance and I'm sure we can get another three points."
