Owls saddened by fan loss

Posted on: Wed 03 Feb 2010

Sheffield Wednesday is distressed to learn that a lifelong Owls supporter has been killed while on patrol in Afghanistan.

Corporal Liam Riley, 21, was one of two British soldiers who died following roadside blasts near Malgir in Helmand Province on Monday morning.

Liam was a member of 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment and had only been posted to Afghanistan a month before the fatal blast.

The Sheffield soldier, who grew up in Sothall, was from a long line of Wednesdayites and a season-ticket holder at Hillsborough until he joined the Army.

Sheffield Wednesday would like to offer its sincere condolences to Liam's family and friends at this extremely difficult time.
